A Big HIE Welcome to the New Commandant and the New Deputy Commandant

On November 21st, Colonel Sidi El-Veirick took over the reins as Commandant of the Higher Institute of English (HIE).

Stationed upstairs in the Old Building, Colonel Sidi is pursuing an open-door policy, placing value on the ideas, opinions and initiatives of everyone working and studying at the Institute.

Colonel Sidi is looking towards three areas in which he sees the Institute developing:

  1. Raising the Institute’s profile is a top priority. The envisioned scenario is of HIE receiving recognition not only amongst tertiary level educational facilities at home, but also abroad, on the international stage, partnering with comparable institutions worldwide.
  2. Looking towards the establishment of a postgraduate Master’s programme at HIE.
  3. Increasing the presence of Armed Forces students participating at HIE, with a greater focus on intensive courses and, therefore, more rapidly measurable results.

At the same time the new Commandant was ensconcing himself in the Commandant’s suite in the Old Building, the new Deputy Commandant, Colonel Mahfoudh Ahmed Zeidane (who has taken over at HIE as the Head of Finance) was setting up his workspace in one of the central downstairs offices.

In addition to his Deputy Commandant duties, Colonel Mahfoudh has also shouldered responsibility for ensuring the good maintenance of HIE’s grounds and buildings.

The staff and students at HIE wish both the new Commandant and Deputy Commandant well, and look forward to working with them.
