The Higher Institute of English (HIE) was established by decree 2016-30 dated 18th Feb 2016. HIE is a public institution under the authority of both the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Higher Education. The degree is in International Communication Studies. Although the course contents are delivered mostly in English, Arabic and French are also included in the curriculum. The overall aim is to develop young Mauritanians who are able to contribute at a high level in both the local and international workplace. Students will also have the opportunity to do internships and work placements with leading companies and governmental organizations. Our highly- qualified and experienced team of teaching specialists has been recruited from Mauritania, Britain, and other English-speaking countries ensuring a broad base of expertise and knowledge.
Language training is also offered to those already in employment with the government, the private sector and other entities; especially those for whom higher levels of English language competence is a growing need. In-Service support is also extended to teachers in the first phase of training to become qualified to serve in government schools.
HIE has a well-appointed building and a completely new annex with a wide range of state-of- the-art learning facilities. Class sizes are generally small (maximum 14 students) so that individual attention and development is guaranteed.
Experience a quality student-centred learning environment at HIE.
