The English training programme for 50 BP sponsored personnel from various government entities ended July 2018. By that time, HIE had completed the 120 hours of English agreed in the contract with BP.
The course had run for 8 months and, on 7th August, an event was held to celebrate the end of the course. The Commandant addressed the students and congratulated them on being regular attendees and urged them to keep up their efforts to progress. BP has agreed to continue sponsorship of 50 students in Phase 2 of the programme starting October 2018. Many of the students who completed Phase 1 will continue to Phase 2 while new students will be added.
BP is becoming one of the major IOC’s (Independent Oil Company) which have a growing interest in Mauritania and they are keen to upskill government employees who need English to communicate with international companies keen on exploring the onshore and offshore blocks the country has put up for lease.
