HIE Higher Institute of English
The in-Service Department received two intakes of MRT Airforce personnel in 2024. The majority are pilots and technicians. The course was designed to give equal weighting to ESP (English for the Airforce) and GE (General English). With 120 contact and study hours the course was a minimum of 12 weeks full-time. Each individual was given the opportunity to progress through a level in the CEFR.
The majority were highly motivated and cooperative students, so success rates were very high; learners moved from Beginner to Elementary, Elementary to Pre-Intermediate to Intermediate …. some are now comfortably in the Upper Intermediate zone. Of particular note was the fact that the Technical English content for the second cohort was delivered by Agnieszka Burda online and distance (from Poland) and that her contribution was supported by NATO DEEP.
