Following secondary schooling as a youngster in Ireland, I went on to my first work experience in a factory producing industrial computer equipment. There I spent eight years working in the areas of storage, materials management, supply and purchasing. I discovered that living and doing day-to-day in the factory environment was, in itself, the best teacher
in hands-on experience and practice.
In my mid twenties I went back to academics, and attended the European Business School, a four-year diploma course in European Business Administration with periods of study spent in London, Paris and Frankfurt.
On successful completion I went on to work primarily in the area of recruitment consulting in the UK and Europe, assisting a range of client manufacturing and service companies in fulfilling their middle to senior management needs across the functional areas, and lastly a role in HR management.
Following some twenty years in business, I took a year out to teach business through English, completed the TESOL course, and arrived at the Southwest University of Finance and Economics in Sichuan, China. The year happily turned into sixteen years there, teaching general business and foundations to undergraduate, postgraduate and MBA students. In more recent years I
have had some project teaching roles in high schools and language teaching centres in Asia, as well as a number of project recruitment assignments for start-up manufacturing and service companies. I am glad to be here at HIE. The Institute’s foresight and purpose in looking to the future needs of Mauritania and paving the way for future leadership and its effective contribution to government, business and the economy as a whole is inspiring. I feel the environment here in Nouakchott to be open and friendly, and am happy to be a part of contributing to HIE’s undertaking.
