HIE has been engaging with Ecole Normale Superieure (ENS) for the past 2 years to carry out this mandate. To this end, a second successful teacher training event was organised on March 16. 2019. This was in conjunction with the teacher trainees from Ecole Normale Superieure (ENS), Nouakchott. The aim of the one-day series of workshops was to encourage best teaching practice and to provide practical, relevant help to the trainees for their classroom lessons.<\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1506\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hie.mr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/ENS3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"4736\" height=\"2664\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.hie.mr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/ENS3.jpg 4736w, http:\/\/www.hie.mr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/ENS3-300x169.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.hie.mr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/ENS3-768x432.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.hie.mr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/ENS3-1024x576.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 4736px) 100vw, 4736px\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The event opened up with a series of welcome speeches by Mr. Gerry McKeown (Academic Quality Coordinator) and Madame Siham Babana (Head of English, ENS) and an outline of the programme of workshops was given.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1504\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hie.mr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/ENS-pic-1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"3264\" height=\"2448\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.hie.mr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/ENS-pic-1.jpeg 3264w, http:\/\/www.hie.mr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/ENS-pic-1-300x225.jpeg 300w, http:\/\/www.hie.mr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/ENS-pic-1-768x576.jpeg 768w, http:\/\/www.hie.mr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/ENS-pic-1-1024x768.jpeg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 3264px) 100vw, 3264px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The following topics were delivered by HIE instructors:<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hie.mr\/index.php\/teachers\/gerry-mckeown\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gerry McKeown<\/a> &#8211; <\/strong>Coursebook conundrums. (Adapting your coursebook creatively.)<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hie.mr\/index.php\/teachers\/emma-heath\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Emma Heath<\/a> &#8211;<\/strong> Resources \u2013 no resources? (Overcoming the problem of limited resources.)<\/p>\n<p>Music to my ears. (Using music to create dynamic, fun activities in the classroom.)<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hie.mr\/index.php\/teachers\/bill-curry\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bill Curry\u00a0<\/a> &#8211;<\/strong> Teacher talking time (TTT). (Exploring ways of reducing teacher talking time in the classroom and maximising student talking time.)<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hie.mr\/index.php\/teachers\/warren-sheard\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Warren Sheard<\/a> &#8211;<\/strong> Practical pronunciation practice. (Using games and activities to practise aspects of pronunciation.)<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hie.mr\/index.php\/teachers\/jonathan-birkin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jon Birkin<\/a> &#8211; <\/strong>Role-play in the classroom. (Using role-play in the classroom to overcome student shyness and create materials.)<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hie.mr\/index.php\/teachers\/jonathan-miller\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pascal Ranaghan<\/a> &#8211;<\/strong> Consolidation Exercises. (Using consolidation exercises to extend and reinforce vocabulary, grammar and functional language elements.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jon Miller &#8211;<\/strong> Warmers, lead-in activities, fillers and coolers. (Using warmers, fillers, coolers etc, to reinforce previously-taught language items.)<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hie.mr\/index.php\/teachers\/mohamed-cheikh-beina\/\">Mohamed Beina<\/a> &#8211;<\/strong> Teaching vocabulary. (Using creative strategies and games to help students learn and retain vocabulary.)<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hie.mr\/index.php\/teachers\/lilian-wardle\/\">Lilian Wardle<\/a>\u00a0 &#8211;<\/strong> The written word \u2026 (Brainstorming ideas on topic-based and free writing activities in the classroom.)<\/p>\n<p>Based on the success of this event, HIE anticipates holding a further series of teacher training workshops.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>HIE Teacher Training event, March 16th, 2019.
