HIE Higher Institute of English
HIE was approached through official channels in September 2020 by G5 Secretariat with a request for English courses for a number of their personnel. The HQ is housed in Nouakchott. G5 Sahel has been in existence now for some time and is tasked with the mutual defence, security, governance and development among the 5 member countries; Mauritania, Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger and Chad. The nominated staff are drawn from all member countries. HIE was advised that there is a growing need for various levels of English competence owing to their international nature and emerging cooperation with a number of backers and overlapping actors. HIE has designed an afternoon programme for participants, who now number 28 students, and learning is under way.
