During the week April 8th to April 12th, 2024, NATO BILC convened its annual conference under the banner of the “NATO BILC Military Terminology Conference.” This gathering was graciously hosted by the Swedish Defence University (SeDU) in Stockholm, Sweden, drawing over 50 participants hailing from various NATO and Associate nations. Throughout the conference, attendees delivered presentations and showcased digital posters exploring a diverse array of themes, including:
- Applications of advanced terminology technologies
- Innovations in military terminology within educational contexts
- Effective terminology management in multilingual environments
- The comprehension and cultivation of emerging terminologies
- Enhancing collaboration between civilian and military sectors in terminology development
- Addressing the complexities inherent in defining military terminology
Representing the Islamic Republic of Mauritania and the Higher Institute of English, Mohamed Yarba Meissara presented a digital poster focusing on the contemporary pedagogical approach employed by HIE in instructing the Mauritanian Armed Forces. This methodology entails a transition from the traditional Grammar Translation method, characterized by passive learning, to the Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) method which actively engages students in the learning process. During the presentation, the presenter fielded inquiries regarding current resource levels and the challenges encountered by HIE.
